If you are from Florida, you know who FPL is. FPL stands for Florida Power and Light, they are the electricity company of Florida. I have a small problem with them that has cost me around $70.00 total. When you sign up to FPL you are required to make a deposit OR setup Direct Debit out of your account. I decided to choose Direct Debit, because I didn't have the money for a deposit. From there on, well a few over drafts and a few problems with FPL. First let me explain how I have it setup. I have an two checking accounts. I have a personal account and a Joint account with my girlfriend. The joint account covers all the bills, so for each paycheck we put money in the joint account to cover the bills. That is how we have it set up so we don't mingle our money and spend way too much.
From there, each month FPL sends a bill in the mail with a date that they choose to be a past due date. Okay, well no problem. I can pay it by that date, but I have to wait for my next paycheck before I can put the money in there. I am usually broke, not because I spend too much, but because I get paid low as a software engineer. So I have a past due date that is two weeks out and I get paid this Friday. Awesome, I can make it, but what does FPL do? Well they take money out before the past due date without even telling me! Oh boy, they have done this three times now and well I got tired of it. So I canceled the direct debit, but then they forced me to pay the deposit. I then decided against paying the deposit and get back Direct Debit. Hmm. Sometimes, companies just can't get it right! I wish on the bill, if they FORCE you to use direct debit, why can't they tell you the date it will be taken out of the account like Bright House? They take it out on the date its due and they even say it in BIG BLUE LETTERS. I promise I won't ask for anything else this year Santa, just put FPL on the right track please.
